Psycho Analysis

The scene when Marion and Norman go into the Parlour, so they could eat there. The room is dark when Norman walks in and he walks to the other side and turns on the light. He is still in total darkness. The sound that is played has a mysterious feel to it. It is like something is going to happen. When Marion walks in the Parlour see looks around at the birds on the wall, she becomes uncomfortable yet still makes her way to a sit, showing the passive nature of her, and Norman’s authority over her. When Norman sits down he sit in a shaded area of the room that makes half his face dark. This foreshadows the two personalities inside Norman.

As Marion eats her food Norman mentions that she eats like a bird, as in the first part of the scene she saw the stuffed birds on the wall, Hitchcock has some what a of sexual humor going on in the background of the story, as Marion last name is crane, which is also a bird. When Norman explains that he likes to stuff birds and that she eats like a bird. Hitchcock could have made this implied that Norman is really wants to be sexually involved with women.

Norman shows a lot of dominance in that part, when Marion asks about his mother, if he should put her in a home. He replied very strongly making Marion quickly regret and back down her statement. His face comes into full screen, and shows his dormancy even more in this part of the scene. He loses his masculinity when she asks about his friends; he becomes quiet and says a boy’s best friend is his mother. When Norman is talking about his mother the camera is filming from below have a bird in the background, shows an evil side of Norman that’s inside him.

The Punisher Warzone analysis

I have chosen a clip from the punisher Warzone, when frank goes to see the family of the cop he kill by accident. He shot him when he was undercover; frank didn’t know that he was undercover. The clip starts off with the punisher walking towards a house and going to the door, there is a little girl at the side of the door, the man is in control in the situation it shows him kneeling down towards the girl and he is kind and gives her a torch because he was in her light for her activity. Then a gun appears to the man’s head and shows a drastic change in the scene when the woman holding the gun is in control and the man doesn’t show any authority. The woman tells him to go away and leave them alone and later figures out that he is the man that killed her husband. The woman tells her daughter to go inside, showing more authority than the man. The man offers money in compensation for the damage he has done, the woman persists in her authority by telling him that she doesn’t want it and she wants to kill him. The man stays calm at gun point, it’s like he is still in control even at gun point, and he tells her to shoot him but she can’t do it, she has lost control on the situation because she is not emotionally stable to handle it. She walks back into the house and the man leaves. The man was not in control of the situation at all times, and he doesn’t show authority at all. He is to weak and he wants her to shoot him.

Film Reverse engineering 2

today, in the group we decided how we would set up the set and get the props. we decided rupert will wear a swimming cap and we would paint him black with facepaint, so he looks more like lucius in the clip. we also thinking were we can get the props.
we have ask anthony to play ricky bobby in our reverse engineering, so we have got all the actors ready now. now were dicusing the possible locations of the clip to be shot. we first thought of using the library, but we can't use it in the easter holiday. in the shot, there is a window looking at a car park, we thought of getting a picture of a car park and fading it out a little and sticking it on the windows so it looks like were looking at a carpark.

The Godfather

In our class we were told to write about a part from the godfather. We were told to identify parallels and contrast of the different scenes. The part we look at it when Michael Corleone is at his son’s baptizing, when that he is there he gets his people to kill off other mafia families.

There is a good contrast when Michael is in the church with his family and friends and at the same time his guys are killing people in different locations.
The other contrast between the scenes is that when then priest is picking something up to put on the child's head, at the same time one of the killer picks up a part of a gun. the priest being good and doesn't sin, while the other guy is bad and kills people.

In the part it showed different guys carrying out different jobs for Micheal, i think that its very well set up that he is in a church, while he is killing many different people. when the church peace and no violence, he is actually a very dangerous man.

this shows the part we looked at in class.

Battleship Potempkin

1. Re watch the up to 0:45. What atmosphere do the contrasting shots create? How does Eisenstein create a sense of foreboding alongside the overriding atmosphere?
the contrasting shots give an happy and exited atmosphere, which is very different to what going to happen. the sense of foreboding comes from the people waving because you don't no what there waving at fully, you know its a ship but don't know who is on the ship and what there doing.

2. Watch the rest of the clip again. How does Eisenstein create a contrast between the soldiers and the people? How and why does our view of the people's feelings towards the soldiers change?
the contrast is that the soldier are all in a line and well organized, and the people are running in different directions and hiding and jumping over things. its a very crowed scene and out of control. it also shows that the soldiers are in control because they are calm and not running around, not like the people who are in a state of panic and cannot be in control of the situation. another contrast between the soldiers and people is that the people feel many different emotions while the soldiers don't, they don't even feel any for the boy who is dead. they just keep shooting and marching down the steps.

Common Features

The common features of horror are dark sets, bloody scenes and some great make up and costumes. many horror movies use video editing to add things in that are not physically possible to create on set.

This is an example of some video editing has you can see at 0.19 - 0.22 seconds.

Horror movies sometimes have over exaggerated deaths, where there is tons of blood and limbs falling off.

at 3.29 you can see the blood falling from his face and that the cuts are deep.

horror movies are defined as movies that scared you and make you feel very uncomfortable. some have a lot of blood and can get very detailed.

horror is similar to some action movies, where there is always a main character that survives and saves the day. horror movies are also very different because action movies mostly make you feel good and it has a lot of fighting and effects. eg cars flying throw windows, explosions. horror doesn't really have bombs and guns, it has a lot of unnatural things like ghosts or zombies.
